A new book arrives!

I know I’ve been sadly remiss with updating this blog.

To be fair, the last few years have involved a pandemic, homeschooling, a cross country move, and new job, in addition to the perpetual staffing shortages in health care leading to longer work weeks than I’d like. (Which leads to shorter writing weeks, alas!)

That being said, I had way more planned than I’ve even attempted to keep up with, and somehow I forgot all about updating this site. Yikes 😱

In long overdue writing news, I was traditionally published in April 2023, through a University press, in a wonderful collection of short stories written by many amazing female physicians. It was a truly incredible experience, and I would love you to check that book out here.

What We Bring to the Practice of Medicine

But…the big news I’m excited to announce today is my upcoming release!

This memoir has been a very long time coming and is composed of a collection of short blogs and poetry.
(Don’t worry– I’m still working on other fiction books in my debut series, The Rise of the Light, as well as a spin-off series and now that things are sort-of settling down, I will have something ready to go in 2024-stay tuned.)

This book is close to my heart and include the most vulnerable and raw writings I’ve ever shared with the world. That, I suspect, is the main reason it took over two years to edit and get to this stage of production. The book itself is a day-by-day accounting of my general mindset in 2020, as human, mother, and physician thrown into a situation I was never trained nor learned how to cope with before it descended.

I know I’m not alone in feeling my life was turned upside down in 2020, but I hope this book provides some comfort, and maybe even a little inspiration to others.
It is available as of Friday, October 6th, 2023, on all platforms in ebook and print form through Amazon.

If you enjoy this book, or any of my others, I would love for you to leave a review.

Each person who leaves a review (on any platform) helps other readers find a new book. Your words may be the reason someone reads something that changes their life.

And Isn’t that a great and powerful idea?

Poetry in a Pandemic. Volume 1: Changes

2020 was a year that changed life as we know it.

In this collection of poetry and prose, Gooden explores her longing for more than the daily routine as she makes her way through a “once in a lifetime” world event.

In the middle of turmoil, she creates magic in the mundane as she examines her life in an honest, poignant, and often irreverent way.

As she reflects on life and all it encompasses through a healthcare worker’s perspective, she proves there can be light even in the darkest of days.
